The Simul trueSKY Blog is back!

Simul Blog is now back to producing bi-weekly blogs!

The Simul Blog

The Simul Blog helps trueSKY community members, by providing valuable information surrounding trueSKY and the industry. For example, we aim to provide:

  • Tutorials on how to get the most out of trueSKY
  • News from the game development and simulation industry
  • A showcase from the trueSKY indie community

TrueSKY support community on Slack

Our support community is hosted on Slack, a collaborative tool which allows users to chat about topics. In Slack, the Simul Support team and trueSKY community members can discuss issues, technical problems and ask questions. Also, if someone from the Simul team is not available, one of our indie developers will be happy to assist you.

If you have not already joined Slack, please visit and sign up for an account. Joining is easy, simply contact us or send an email to asking to be invited to the Simul Slack channel. (remember to include your Simul & Slack username in your email).

The Simul Team

The team at Simul has grown, which is due to the popularity of trueSKY. Simul welcomes Aidan and James (Me!) to the team, along with another 2 team members arriving in the coming weeks. As a result, the team is now the strongest it’s ever been, and we have lots of exciting projects in store.

trueSKY Documentation overhall

TrueSKY has changed a lot over the last few years, with all the new features and updates that have been added. However, the documentation has fallen behind. Because of this, we are going to make sure the documentation is one of our main focuses going forward. As this is a large task, this may take some time. Plus, we all know that video tutorials can be easier to follow and more engaging. So be ready for frequent videos helping you get the best out of trueSKY.

Volumetric Water update

One of our most recent major updates was adding water to the trueSKY toolset. With this, you can create an endless ocean of real-time volumetric water, or smaller volumes to fit within a variety of scenes. The water renderer will be a turn key solution and offer customisation. Over the past few months we have been hard at work adding more features. For instance, one such example is the recently implemented Screen-Space reflections. In addition to this, we now have the ability to mask 3D areas of the water. For instance, you can clear out areas of water beneath the surface, such as the hull of a ship.

Community Showcase

The trueSKY community have created some amazing games and simulations. Starting now, we will now be selecting amazing images or videos from our community and sharing them with you through our newsletter!

If you would like to be part of the next Simul Showcase, please join the trueSKY Slack channel. Then you can the send us your favourite images and videos which feature trueSKY.

Jonathan de Blok, who was contracted by Delodge to work on VFX for the movie ‘SuperJuffie’, used TrueSky for all the clouds in the movie. Jonathan noted how he enjoyed using trueSKY due to how:

“it looks great even with the camera going through the clouds which always is problem with traditional voxel based solutions. And the real-time feedback makes it easy to fine tune and art direct.”

Furthermore, Jonathan has even provided us with a making of video for SuperJuffie.

Deadstick Bush flight simulator

At Remex Software, Chris and his team has been busy working on Deadstick Bush flight simulator, and has shared their trailer with us.

From the Steam page description:

Become a true stick and rudder pilot and master the backcountry in Deadstick Bush Flight Simulator. With no autopilot, no de-icing systems, little navigation aids and limited instruments, do you have what it takes to become the ultimate bush pilot?

The trueSKY community has been creating amazing content for the last decade. We are extremely excited to see what future content creators can create.
